As it happens, just nine days before the big official GTA 6 presentation on Netflix, alleged gameplay clips and map sections from Grand Theft Auto VI have been circulating online since August 18th. Several established publications like PC Gamer, Dexerto, VGC, and Push Square consistently report on the material, which is said to originate from a group called “Cyberleek.” The fact is: Rockstar Games has already had part of the videos removed from the internet via copyright strike, which many observers interpret as indirect confirmation of their authenticity. There has been no official statement from Rockstar or parent company Take-Two so far.
What's Visible in the Leaked GTA 6 Clips?
One clip allegedly shows protagonist Jason Duval at a beach house, where he jumps over a terrace, grabs a basketball, and shoots a hoop. After the successful shot, a “Focus” stat bar is said to appear on the screen and increase by two percent, apparently a new progression or skill system. A second video purports to show a driving scene in which Jason crashes a car into a delivery van and then gets into a brawl with an NPC. Observers also interpret the scene to suggest that vehicles in GTA 6 might seriously rely on fuel for the first time, a detail that has never been officially confirmed.
What Does the Allegedly Leaked Map Show?
In addition to the gameplay snippets, images have also surfaced that are said to show the complete game map. According to these, five separate districts are visible with place names such as Dalton Island, Tequesta Retreat, Gloriana Key, and Catalan Key, including Catalan Bay, all areas around the fictional Leonida. Rockstar has only officially confirmed individual locations from previous trailers so far; a complete map overview has never been released officially.
Who Is Behind the Leak and Why?
The person or group behind the name “Cyberleek” states that their action is a protest against Take-Two's pricing and distribution policy. Specifically, the discontent is aimed at the decision to sell GTA 6 digitally via pre-order, even though digital copies, unlike physical ones, cannot sell out, and pre-orderers therefore have little real added value. Cyberleek demands a public statement and apology from Rockstar, along with a commitment to treat buyers more fairly in the future. Criticism of this exact pricing and distribution strategy is not new; we have previously reported how Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick rejected criticism of the digital-only launch and the $80 price point.
How Does This Leak Compare to the GTA 6 Hack of 2022?
GTA 6 is no stranger to major leaks: back in 2022, over 90 internal development clips found their way online after a then-minor member of the hacking group Lapsus$ gained access to Rockstar's internal systems. Rockstar confirmed the security incident within hours at the time. The current case is different: it doesn't appear to be a breach of Rockstar's systems, but rather already circulating material that is deliberately being used as political leverage. This makes classification more difficult, as a copyright strike confirms that Rockstar asserts rights to the material, but says nothing about how current or representative the scenes shown are for the final version of the game.
