Fans eagerly anticipating 007 First Light from IO Interactive on the Nintendo Switch 2 will have to wait longer. As multiple publications consistently report, the Switch 2 version of the new James Bond game has been delayed once again – this time to March 2027.
How many times has 007 First Light been delayed?
Originally, a cross-platform release was planned for May 2026. The first delay occurred back in April, and now a second one follows specifically for the Switch 2 version. According to current reports, other platforms are not affected by this latest postponement – so players on PC, PlayStation, or Xbox are expected to get their hands on the game earlier than the Switch 2 contingent.
Why might the Switch 2 version specifically require more time?
With cross-platform releases, it's not uncommon for the most technically demanding port to be completed last. While the Switch 2 is significantly more powerful than its predecessor, a graphically intensive action-adventure like 007 First Light still needs to be optimized for potentially weaker hardware compared to the PS5 or current PCs. Therefore, additional optimization time for the Switch 2 version is understandable, even if it's naturally frustrating for impatient fans.
Context: Delays for Switch and Switch 2 versions are not uncommon across the industry, especially for games initially developed for more powerful platforms. IO Interactive itself has experience with multi-platform releases, notably with the Hitman trilogy, though without a console generation as new as the Switch 2 in its portfolio. For the studio, this extra time primarily means one thing: the chance to ensure the new Bond series' first impression on Nintendo's handheld console isn't marred by technical compromises.
