Rockstar is taking its GTA 6 advertising campaign to the extreme: As GamePro reports, the publisher is transforming an entire NBA home game into a Vice City show – and doing so exactly one day before the game's release.
What is 'A Night in Vice City'?
On November 18th, the Miami Heat will face the Milwaukee Bucks in their home arena, the Kaseya Center. The game will run as 'A Night in Vice City'. The arena is to be fully designed in the style of the fictional city from GTA 6. A specially designed court, as well as special promotions and live elements during the game, have been announced.
The team will also be involved: The Heat will take to the court as 'Vice City' that evening, wearing jerseys that have never been seen before. A preview of the court was only shown blurred, but a lot of pink is already discernible. Further details are expected in the coming weeks.
What's Already Available for Fans?
The kickoff already happened on October 1st: A large 'Welcome to Vice City' sign has been illuminating the roof of the Kaseya Center ever since. The Heat are also selling a joint Vice City collection featuring T-shirts, hoodies, and baseball caps.
Why is Rockstar Launching Such a Campaign?
Our Take: Rockstar is leveraging marketing for GTA 6 that goes far beyond classic trailers. The publisher had previously revealed details piece by piece, such as the game's six radio stations. The fact that Miami is specifically at the center makes sense: the city is the real-world inspiration for Vice City. The promotion also shows how massive the budget for the launch is.
What this means for you: If you're in Miami, you can experience the evening live. Everyone else will likely see pictures and clips on social media. GTA 6 is scheduled for release on November 19th for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, with the PC version following in 2027.
