No sooner had the pre-sale of the limited edition GTA 6 controllers for the PS5 begun than the PlayStation Store was already overwhelmed. Demand was so high that the store briefly buckled under the pressure – and scalpers were already on eBay, ready to resell the controllers at a hefty markup.
Why Did the PlayStation Store Crash During the GTA 6 Controller Pre-Sale?
The limited edition DualSense controllers with a GTA 6 design officially cost $84.99 each, available in black and white variants. The rush at the start of the pre-sale was so massive that Sony's store was temporarily overloaded, and many fans couldn't even reach the checkout. This is not an isolated incident: when the UK pre-sale of the DualSense controllers launched, which we covered in our report on the British pre-sale launch, the interest was already enormous.
What Do GTA 6 Controllers Cost from Scalpers Now?
Those who missed the pre-sale can now find the controllers on eBay again – but at prices that have nothing to do with the official $84.99 price tag. Current offers range from approximately $130 to $200, with individual listings even asking for up to $199 plus nearly $24 for shipping – which translates to about $225 for a controller that actually costs $85. This represents a markup of sometimes over 150 percent.
From our perspective, the scalping problem here is particularly unnecessary: unlike genuine limited editions with a fixed number of units, there's no information yet suggesting that the GTA 6 controllers are actually sold out or have a hard limit. Anyone wanting to buy one can usually still try directly through the PlayStation Store once the initial rush has subsided – resorting to an overpriced eBay offer is simply not necessary in most cases.
