GTA 6: PEGI-18 Rating Mentions Cocaine ‘Anytime’ and Decapitations – Page Now Offline

Someone at PEGI was a bit too quick: Shortly before its November release, GTA 6's age rating appeared – with a description that packs a punch. A short time later, the page was gone again. It was saved nonetheless, and the community has long been discussing it.

According to IGN and Eurogamer, the Pan European Game Information rated the game PEGI 18. This comes a day after the ESRB's "M for Mature" rating in the USA – so the rating itself isn't surprising, but the level of detail in the justification certainly is.

What does the PEGI description for GTA 6 say?

Here's a summary of the reports, in our own words:

  • Story: Players control Jason Duval or Lucia Caminos, two criminals who get caught in a conspiracy after a botched robbery. The setting is Vice City.
  • Violence: It is described as bloody and "highly realistic". According to PEGI, some weapons cause greater damage, such as detailed decapitations and dismemberment.
  • Drugs: Consumption is "frequent and prominent". Cocaine can reportedly be used directly from the inventory and snorted "at any time" from the hand.
  • Sexual Content: There are strong sexual themes with nudity, intercourse, and occasional fetish scenes. In nightclubs, players can also pay for private dances.

Why did the page suddenly disappear again?

IGN adds in an update that PEGI has apparently removed the rating from its website. Instead of the details, it now just says "The requested page could not be found". IGN has inquired with PEGI, but no response was available from the source. Why the entry was removed is therefore unclear. The text itself continues to circulate via screenshots on X.

Important for context: There is no official confirmation from Rockstar regarding these details. The description comes from the rating board, not the studio.

What does this mean for players?

From our perspective: Anyone familiar with the series will hardly be surprised. What's new, above all, is that drugs are no longer just a trade commodity but are said to appear directly in the inventory as a mechanic. That a GTA game receives an 18+ rating is standard for the series. However, for parents and retailers, the entry is a clear signal: This is not a game for teenagers. What truly ends up in the final game will only be revealed upon release.
