Publisher Take-Two is not letting it rest – the company is now taking legal action against the alleged leaker to unequivocally clarify their identity and stop further publications.

For about two weeks, new gameplay snippets, map excerpts, and insider details about GTA 6 have been circulating online under the name 'Cyberleek' – sometimes multiple clips per day. Take-Two had already announced legal steps to identify the source of the leaks and even submitted requests for information to Microsoft and Discord. New investigative clues now suggest that the person behind the account is indeed from Germany – which potentially simplifies legal prosecution for Take-Two, as German courts are quite amenable to civil injunctions in such cases.
What are the Consequences for the German Leak Scene?
For us as a German-speaking editorial team, this is more than just a side note: Should the DACH connection be confirmed, this would be one of the most prominent cases where a German publisher's opponent could end up directly before a German court. Similar cases – such as earlier leak proceedings surrounding GTA 5 or Cyberpunk 2077 – usually ended in out-of-court settlements or cease-and-desist declarations once the identity was established. However, the dynamic of the current leak wave is unusually persistent: Despite ongoing legal efforts, new clips have continued to be published in recent days, demonstrating how difficult it is to actually stop anonymous leakers while investigations are underway.
What's Next for Rockstar and Take-Two?
Rockstar itself has so far refrained from official statements, publicly focusing on preparing the major gameplay reveal announced for the coming days. Take-Two is likely to continue pushing platform operators for information in parallel to definitively identify the person or persons responsible. Until then, it remains unclear whether criminal charges will be filed or 'only' a civil injunction – both, however, would have a significant deterrent effect on the leak channel scene.
