It's official: The USK has rated GTA 6 18+ in Germany. This isn't surprising, but the examiners' justification reveals quite a bit about what to expect in the new Rockstar game. According to GameStar, the open-world game will be released on November 19, 2026, for PS5 and Xbox Series, with the PC version following in 2027.

Why Is GTA 6 Rated for Ages 18 and Up?
The USK lists three reasons for the rating:
- Drastic Violence: The violence in the game is clearly visualized or excessively emphasized.
- Drugs: Drugs and drug consumption are depicted positively or frequently.
- Criminal Role Models: Criminal actions are portrayed uncritically or trivialized.
By the way, you play as Jason and Lucia, the game's two protagonists. Sexual content and coarse language do not appear in the justification. This doesn't mean they aren't present in the game – according to GameStar, these criteria are simply not relevant for an 18+ rating.
What Does the USK's Note About In-Game Purchases Mean?
Additionally, the USK notes a warning about in-game purchases. This has no impact on the age rating but raises questions. How exactly we'll be able to spend real money in GTA 6 is currently unclear. The developers had previously promised something different for the single-player mode. GameStar has therefore inquired with the USK, and an answer is still pending.
From our perspective, this is the most interesting point of the announcement. Whether it's about a store, microtransactions, or just a notice in the menu cannot be determined from the rating symbol alone. We'll wait before drawing any conclusions here. Should the USK respond, we'll know more about whether the single-player truly remains free of real-money offers.
Is an 18+ Rating the Norm for Rockstar?
In short: yes. For the main installments of the series, an 18+ rating is the usual classification in Germany, so the rating aligns with the series. Little changes for players: Those of legal age can access the game normally upon release. For younger players, however, GTA 6 remains off-limits, just like its predecessors.
