Rumor: Liberty City as a Giant DLC for GTA 6?

Important note: This is a rumor/leak that has NOT yet been officially confirmed by Rockstar Games.

No sooner has the next major GTA leak emerged than the rumor mill is buzzing once again: According to reports, a data trove of approximately 192 gigabytes, which allegedly surfaced online on September 18, 2026, is fueling speculation that Liberty City could make its way into GTA 6 as a gigantic DLC. The gaming editorial GameStar was the first to report on it, with GamesRadar, Gamingbible, and Gameranx picking up the topic shortly thereafter. Rockstar Games itself has not yet commented on it.

What Exactly Was Found in the Leaked Game Files?

According to the circulating files, datamining fans reportedly discovered an audio trigger file containing positional data for voice-overs. If these coordinates are allegedly imported into the unofficial map editor CodeWalker, the outline of a Liberty City map emerges, which is said to be larger than the familiar version from GTA 4. Apparently, it was originally a canceled expansion for GTA Online or GTA 5, which Rockstar never released. The same data package is also said to contain remnants of the likewise canceled single-player DLC “Agent Trevor,” including a spaceship location, space suits, and an underground cave beneath a villa, along with cut mission names and dialogue lines, as well as an an alternative version of Trevor's “Option A” ending. Additionally, the find is said to include early, apparently very low-resolution GTA 6 map objects.

Is Liberty City Really Coming as DLC for GTA 6?

Here's where it gets speculative: According to reports, the files themselves nowhere explicitly state that the old Liberty City map will actually be reused for GTA 6. The theory primarily stems from the claim that so much development work went into the map that, from a fan's perspective, simply scrapping it without replacement would make little sense. According to community voices, it's therefore conceivable that Rockstar put the material for GTA 5 on ice to bring it back later, in a revised form, as DLC for GTA 6. However, this is not proven – as long as Rockstar remains silent, it remains an interpretation of the leaked findings, not a confirmed roadmap.

The idea isn't entirely new, anyway: As early as 2023, a leak from GTA 5's source code sparked similar speculation, as individual lines of code hinted at a possible Liberty City expansion. The origin of many of these files is likely the major Rockstar hack of 2022, from which new material has been surfacing periodically ever since. The current 192 GB find thus rather joins a longer chain of recurring Liberty City rumors, rather than opening an entirely new chapter as was the case with a previous leak concerning cut GTA 5 DLC content, which we reported on. For the community, a genuine Liberty City DLC for GTA 6 would still be a dream come true: The city from GTA 4 is considered by many long-time fans to be one of the most atmospherically rich settings in the series, and a modern, significantly larger remake within the GTA 6 ecosystem would have potential for tons of new story and multiplayer content.

Official information on GTA 6 is currently only available on the official Rockstar website for GTA 6 and in the Rockstar Newswire – there's currently nothing about a possible Liberty City DLC there.
