It's been a long time coming, but now it's finally here: Kingdom Hearts has officially arrived in Fortnite. With Update 42.20, Epic Games briefly took servers offline overnight to roll out the big crossover – since this morning, players can unlock Sora, Riku, Kairi, and Roxas as skins.
Which Kingdom Hearts Characters are Now in Fortnite?
A total of four characters from the Kingdom Hearts series have made it into the Battle Royale, all in their Kingdom Hearts 2 designs:
- Sora, the main hero of the series, including his Keyblade equipment
- Riku in his distinctive outfit
- Kairi, also in her Kingdom Hearts 2 look
- Roxas in his Organization XIII outfit
- Sora's Keyblade will also be playable as a Mythic weapon – the hilt features an engraved Fortnite Loot Llama instead of the familiar Mickey Mouse silhouette
When Exactly Did the Kingdom Hearts Crossover Launch in Fortnite?
The skins arrive with the Item Shop reset, which was announced to occur at 5 PM US Pacific Time – corresponding to the early morning hours in Germany. The official reveal trailer already premiered on September 15th across Fortnite's social media channels and concludes with a homage to the classic Kingdom Hearts box art motif, this time recreated with Fortnite characters on a self-built fortress.
From our perspective, the Kingdom Hearts appearance seamlessly joins the long list of major Fortnite crossovers, through which Epic Games has brought virtually every major pop culture brand into the game in recent years. For fans of the series, it should be particularly interesting that this crossover not only includes costumes but also a gameplay-specific Mythic weapon in the form of the Keyblade – which is by no means a given for crossover content and demonstrates the significant effort Epic has invested in this collaboration.
