Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave Is Now Available for Nintendo Switch 2

Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave is here: Since September 18, 2026 (04:00 UTC, which means the evening of September 17 in North America), you can exclusively play the 18th main installment of the tactical role-playing series on the Nintendo Switch 2. Developer Intelligent Systems sends you into the realm of Dagda in Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave, which, according to official statements, lies far southwest of Fódlan, known from Fire Emblem: Three Houses.

What's the Story in Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave?

The plot begins with the downfall of the Dagdan Empire at the hands of the resurrected Demon God Balor. Goddess Sothis then sends a soul – you – five years back in time to the so-called Heroic Games in the capital, Dagsion. In this tournament, four warriors compete for a single wish as the prize, including the young Cai, who wants to rescue his imprisoned father, and the swordsman Dietrich, who constantly seeks stronger opponents. Unlike in Three Houses, where you had to choose one of three routes, the stories of all four main characters can be experienced simultaneously this time.

  • Four playable main characters with their own, simultaneously told storylines
  • New setting: the Dagdan Empire on the continent of Dagda, loosely connected to the Fire Emblem universe around Three Houses
  • First in the series: unit control via mouse mode using the Joy-Con 2
  • Official, approximately seven-minute overview trailer with insights into the combat, class, and narrative systems
  • Worldwide release as a Switch 2 exclusive title, available digitally and at retail

What Does the New Joy-Con 2 Mouse Control Mean for Players?

The Switch 2 allows a Joy-Con 2 to be moved sideways like a computer mouse over a surface. Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave is the first installment in the series to actively utilize this input scheme for moving units on the battlefield. For series veterans, this specifically means: those who have previously planned moves exclusively with the D-pad or touchscreen will now have an additional, optional input scheme – designed for more precise and faster campaigns, especially in the tactically dense map sections of later chapters.

From our perspective, this is a clever move by Intelligent Systems: The series was already known on the 3DS for its well-designed touch controls, and the mouse option on the Switch 2 feels like a logical evolution of that idea – not as a replacement, but as an additional option for those who prefer to position their units by hand rather than with the stick.
