With just a few days left until launch, Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave is set to arrive on September 17, 2026, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch 2. A new detail has surfaced, revealing the sheer ambition behind Intelligent Systems' latest endeavor: The new tactical RPG will demand a massive 29.5 GB of storage space on the console. This officially makes it the largest Fire Emblem title ever released.
This figure originates from the game's eShop metadata and was initially shared by well-known Nintendo dataminer Stealth40k on X, before being picked up by established publications like Nintendo Life.
How Does Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave Compare to Three Houses and Engage in Size?
Players familiar with the last two main entries in the series will quickly realize the massive leap in size. Here's a comparison of the download sizes for recent Fire Emblem generations:
- Fire Emblem: Three Houses (Switch): 11,6 GB
- Fire Emblem Engage (Switch): 16,6 GB
- Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave (Switch 2): 29,5 GB
This makes Fortune’s Weave over 2.5 times larger than Three Houses. According to initial previews, the new game noticeably builds upon Three Houses' formula: players will once again choose one of four main characters at the start, who then compete in the “Heroic Games” to have a wish granted. This expanded scope – featuring more characters, additional voiced dialogue, and more intricate graphics courtesy of the Switch 2 hardware – is likely the primary reason for the increased file size.
Should You Clear Storage Space on Your Switch 2 Before the September 17 Release?
For anyone planning a digital purchase, this means one thing: check your available storage space well before launch. While the Switch 2 boasts larger internal storage than its predecessor, installing several major Switch 2 titles can quickly push you to the limit. Practically, this will involve either deleting old, unused games or investing in a microSD Express card, which the Switch 2 supports for expansion. Opting for the physical cartridge version largely circumvents this issue, though depending on the specific release, you might still need to account for day-one patches that will occupy additional space.
From our perspective, this figure also serves as a strong indicator of how much Nintendo is embracing AAA production values with the Switch 2. A Fire Emblem title that, purely by its file size, enters the same league as major RPGs on other platforms would have been almost unimaginable on the original Switch.
