According to a recent report by GamePro, the new installment in the remake trilogy requires a whopping 200 GB on your hard drive. This places the RPG at number two on the list of storage hogs, right behind the current Call of Duty titles. If you're bookmarking the game in the PlayStation Store, you should start clearing some space now.
Why Does Final Fantasy 7 Revelation Require So Much Storage Space?
The source doesn't provide exact technical reasons, but the direction is clear: the more detailed the areas, the higher the texture resolution, and the more extensive the cutscenes, the larger the download size. According to Square Enix's official announcement, Final Fantasy 7 Revelation is set to tell the final act of the remake trilogy – with a corresponding amount of content. How Much Free Space Should I Plan for on My PS5?
200 GB is no small feat – for a PS5 with 825 GB of internal storage, of which only about 660 GB are actually available to you, that alone is a substantial chunk. Our general tip, regardless of the specific game: clean up well before release. Check which titles you haven't touched in a long time and uninstall them. If you frequently switch between large games, you can also get an external USB SSD – PS4 games can be played directly from it, and PS5 titles can at least be temporarily stored there before you move them back to the internal or an M.2 SSD for launch. Also, allow time for the download itself: 200 GB can easily take several hours depending on your internet connection – so don't wait until release night; download it well in advance as soon as a pre-load is available.
