Arrakis has now found a new home on Xbox too: Dune: Awakening is officially available for Xbox Series X|S and playable via Xbox Game Pass. For the launch, Funcom isn't just delivering the port, but also a massive new update with a single-player mode on top.
What's New with Dune: Awakening's Xbox Launch?
The Xbox release is more than just a port. According to Xbox Wire, the update brings a full-fledged solo mode, allowing you to traverse the desert entirely without other players. In addition, there are deeper gameplay adjustments, new story content, and the conclusion of the first book's narrative. On Xbox Series X, the game runs optionally in Performance Mode at 60 frames per second or in Quality Mode with improved visuals. And for those who prefer to hunt sandworms with others right away: that's still possible in multiplayer, as usual.
Dune: Awakening has been available on PC for a while now: Early Access launched on June 5, 2025, followed by the full version on June 10, 2025. Since then, Funcom has steadily added content, such as the story chapter "The Lost Harvest" in September 2025. These numerous updates are precisely why the Xbox launch is such a good entry point: From day one, you're getting a game that has already received significant polish. We had previously reported on the new solo mode and the revised progression – now the whole package is officially available on Xbox.
Is it Worth Getting Started Now for Xbox Players?
In short: yes, especially now. Dune: Awakening is part of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, Game Pass Premium, and PC Game Pass – so you don't need to buy the game separately if you have one of these subscriptions. Those who prefer to purchase directly can find the Standard, Deluxe, and Ultimate Editions in the Xbox Store. New to Arrakis? The game is a true open-world survival MMO: You land in the desert with minimal equipment, gather resources, build a base, and must watch out for heat, sandworms, and rival factions like the Atreides and Harkonnen. Thanks to the solo mode, you can now settle in peacefully before diving into the multiplayer chaos.
