Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 – New Campaign Trailer Shown at Xbox Show During Tokyo Game Show

At this year's Tokyo Game Show, Xbox today offered a fresh look at the campaign of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4. The Xbox Show, part of the Tokyo Game Show 2026, kicked off at 7 PM Japan time (10 AM UTC or 12 PM German time) and was streamed across official Xbox channels, among others. Besides Modern Warfare 4, Minecraft Dungeons II was also a highlight, but for us, as Call of Duty editors, one thing is clear: the solo campaign trailer is the biggest item on the agenda.

What Does the New Modern Warfare 4 Campaign Trailer Show?

The trailer expands on the story already revealed in spring: North Korea launches a major offensive into South Korea, throwing the entire global situation into disarray. At its core is a young squad of South Korean soldiers fighting for survival on the collapsing front, while Captain Price wages his own covert war in the background. The campaign takes you across the globe: from the trenches in Korea to close-quarters combat in New York and a chase through Paris, all the way to SAS night operations in Mumbai and large-scale reconquest operations in urban areas.

When Will Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 Be Released?

The release date is already set: Modern Warfare 4 launches on October 23, 2026, for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, PC (via Battle.net, Xbox on PC, and Steam), as well as for the Switch 2. Those who pre-order the Vault Edition can start playing as early as October 16, a week earlier than the rest of the community. At the Tokyo Game Show itself, visitors were also able to play the multiplayer on-site via Xbox partner Happinet.

How Does This Trailer Fit Into the Overall Marketing Campaign?

The TGS trailer is no accident; it's the preliminary peak of a whole series of reveals: In May, the first reveal trailer showcased the Korea setting, followed in August by the “Traffic” clip, an action-packed chase through Paris. With today's appearance, Activision closes the gap between announcement and release, deliberately opting for an international stage presence in Japan, a commercially important market for the Call of Duty series. From our perspective, it's remarkable how strongly Infinity Ward is focusing this time on a cohesive global war scenario rather than individual mission snippets – this is clearly intended to present the campaign more as a genuine event than in previous installments.
