If you dare, you should jump on this deal: The found-footage horror shocker Outlast is currently 90% off on Steam. Instead of the usual €14.99 , the classic from developer Red Barrels is currently changing hands for just €1.49 – a price that, considering the game's cult status reputation, seems almost outrageously cheap.
Is Outlast Worth It at This Price?
Outlast's regular price is €14.99 , but the title is currently on sale for just €1.49 . This corresponds to a 90% saving, or exactly €13.50 off the regular price. For under two euros, you get one of the most influential horror games of the last decade and a half – a price-performance ratio that is hard to beat for genre fans.
What Makes Outlast So Special Even Today?
Outlast sends players as journalist Miles Upshur into the abandoned Mount Massive Asylum, where an out-of-control experiment has transformed the patients into murderous monsters. Since the player character cannot defend themselves, the entire gameplay revolves around stealth, hiding, and fleeing – all presented from a first-person perspective with a camcorder aesthetic strongly reminiscent of found-footage horror films. To this day, its atmosphere is considered a benchmark for the entire survival horror genre, even if some critics point to repetitive gameplay sections and occasional navigation issues in the asylum's cramped corridors. With a Metacritic score of 80, Outlast is among the better-rated horror titles of its era and remains a must-play for anyone truly seeking scares. For those who want more after the main game, the DLC called Whistleblower offers a supplementary story centered around the character Waylon Park, shedding light on the origin of the entire catastrophe and providing additional playtime.
