With Season 4, Electronic Arts and Battlefield Studios have launched the major Top Gun crossover for Battlefield 6: new modes, the returning Wake Island, and aerial combat with aircraft carriers. On regular PCs and consoles, everything runs as intended. However, anyone trying to play the new content via NVIDIA's cloud gaming service GeForce NOW currently faces a problem: launching the content results in a crash.
What's Included in the Top Gun Update
Season 4 brings several new content additions at once with the Top Gun crossover. According to observations by Scene Gamers, these include:
- The new large-scale mode Carrier Strike, which combines infantry, vehicles, aircraft, and an aircraft carrier
- The return of the classic map Wake Island in a new aircraft carrier setting
- New two-seater fighter jets for co-operative flying
- Revised or newly standalone map versions added to the existing map pool
The base game, as well as the previously integrated REDSEC maps and standard modes, continue to run on GeForce NOW without restrictions. Only the new Season 4 content is affected.
How the Crash on GeForce NOW Presents Itself
Affected players consistently report the same pattern: as soon as they try to start one of the new Top Gun modes or one of the newly added map versions, the loading process aborts. The application then closes without any error message, throwing players directly back to the GeForce NOW interface. According to our observations, this affects both users with an active EA Play Pro subscription and purchasers of the regular full version equally. The usual workarounds do not work: neither manually changing the GeForce NOW server region nor relinking the EA account to the GeForce NOW account resolves the problem.
The suspected cause lies not with the players, but server-side with the platform itself: NVIDIA's virtualized cloud instances appear to crash when processing the update's new asset and event packages, instead of loading them cleanly.
Impact on Players: A Fix Is in the Works
For everyone who exclusively plays Battlefield 6 via GeForce NOW, this currently means: the new Top Gun content remains simply unreachable until Electronic Arts and NVIDIA provide a hotfix for the cloud builds. Anyone playing on a local installation is not affected by the problem and can use Carrier Strike, Wake Island, and the new jets without restriction.
At least there's a silver lining: according to NVIDIA Community Support, the company is already working on a new update for GeForce NOW to resolve the issue.
We have been informed that an update for GeForce NOW is in the works, and therefore we must expect difficulties with the game until the update is complete. The new Top Gun content and Redsec updates will not be available.
However, NVIDIA has not yet provided a specific date for the fix. Until then, affected players can only regularly monitor the official GeForce NOW channels or temporarily switch to a local installation for the new content, provided their own hardware supports it.
From our perspective, this is an annoying setback for what is otherwise a solid update: cloud gaming, in particular, thrives on new content working just as well on release day as it does on a home PC. When precisely the major season highlight is left out on GeForce NOW, it impacts a user group that consciously chose the flexibility of the cloud.
Anyone who wants to check out the currently running free trial week, regardless of this issue, can find details in our report on Battlefield 6's current free trial week.
