The wait is over: August 18th marks the arrival of Update 1.4.2.0 for Battlefield 6 and REDSEC, bringing their biggest Season 4 patch to date. At its core is the official collaboration with Top Gun, featuring new fighter jets, an expanded map rotation, and the long-awaited comeback of Wake Island.

When Does Battlefield 6 Update 1.4.2.0 Launch?

The download will be available on all platforms starting at 08:00 UTC, with the patch unlocking at 12:00 UTC (14:00 German time). Players eager to jump in on launch day should start their console or PC beforehand to allow the download to run in the background.

What Does the Top Gun Patch Bring to Battlefield 6?

Here's an overview of the most important new features:

  • Two new two-seater fighter jets: the F/A-81F Super Spectre and the F-74A Seacat
  • Return of the classic map Wake Island, along with an expanded Tsuru Reef
  • New Interdictor sniper rifle with record-breaking range, capable of hitting pilots directly in the cockpit
  • New Crashed Carrier location (downed aircraft carrier USS Grant) as a loot hotspot on the Fort Lyndon Battle Royale map
  • Two new aerial modes: Carrier Strike, where infantry, navy, and air force must work together to sink an enemy aircraft carrier, and Gauntlet: Fighter Sweep
  • Playable Top Gun characters such as Lt. “Rooster“ Bradshaw and Lt. “Bob“ Floyd, voiced by the original actors from the film
  • Numerous balance adjustments for vehicles, weapons, and gadgets, as well as improvements to UI, sound, AI, and underwater gameplay

For those who want to dive deeper beforehand: EA has released both the official Patch Notes and a separate Event Guide for Season 4: Top Gun.

The first glimpse of the collaboration was revealed a few days ago: In our report on the first Top Gun trailer, we already provided a detailed breakdown of the announcement. Now, the final details before launch arrive with the final patch notes and a new gameplay trailer.

Why is the Return of Wake Island So Special for Battlefield Fans?

Wake Island is no ordinary map: It first appeared in Battlefield 1942 back in 2002 and has since been re-released in almost every major Battlefield installment, from Battlefield 2142 to Battlefield 4 and even Battlefield 2042. The island is considered one of the most balanced land-air-sea maps in the entire series and is regularly voted among the community's favorite maps. Its return now, in an expanded version with a modern air combat focus, is a clear signal: EA is focusing more on proven fan-favorites in Battlefield 6 rather than entirely new developments.

For players, this primarily means: The patch will be available simultaneously on all platforms, including REDSEC, so you won't have to wait for a specific console. Those who want to take to the skies immediately at launch should initiate the download the evening before, ensuring the version available from 08:00 UTC is ready as soon as the server unlocks at 12:00 UTC.
