Activision Personally Serves Cease and Desist to Call of Duty Cheat Provider

Activision is now taking the offensive offline in its fight against cheat providers. A well-known seller of Call of Duty cheats received a personal visit – complete with cameras – during the ongoing Modern Warfare 4 Beta.

Who Did Activision Visit and Why?

The target was the cheat provider known as “Elocarry” in Ohio, USA. An Activision representative drove directly to his residential address, rang the doorbell, and personally handed over a cease and desist order – the entire video, published by the official Call of Duty X account, almost looks like a mini-documentary. The man at the door, whose face was blurred, was briefly informed that Activision's lawyers had sent the papers and that he should contact the mentioned law firm.

How Does Activision Generally Tackle Cheat Providers?

The visit to Elocarry is not an isolated incident but part of a larger campaign: According to Activision, they have now issued more than 80 cease and desist orders, disrupted over 375 reseller structures, and completely taken down more than 30 providers. With this, the publisher is enforcing its in-house anti-cheat system Ricochet not only technically, but increasingly also legally and – as in this case – quite concretely.

For players, one thing should be particularly interesting: In response, Elocarry has paused the sale of its Call of Duty and Warzone cheats, but continues to offer cheats for other titles like Battlefield 6, Rust, or Apex Legends on the same site. Anyone currently participating in the Modern Warfare 4 Beta should expect cleaner lobbies, at least in the short term – though this rarely lasts, as new providers usually quickly fill the void.

How fiercely contested the topic of cheating is around the CoD launch was also recently demonstrated during the second Beta weekend featuring the new Warzone mode on the Zodiac map, which was also under close community scrutiny.
