Nintendo continues to celebrate 40 years of Zelda – and this time, Majora’s Mask takes center stage. The original soundtrack of the N64 classic is coming to Nintendo Music, along with other small promotions for fans.
Nintendo Life reports that the music will be added in Japan on Friday, October 9th. In Western regions, it might be available as early as Thursday – though this is an editorial assumption and not an official statement.
What Else Is There for Majora’s Mask Besides the Soundtrack?
Nintendo has announced several promotions for the game:
- Soundtrack: The original music will be added to Nintendo Music.
- Digital Cards: In Nintendo Today! there are Majora’s Mask cards with daily quiz questions. Those who answer correctly receive a token that can later be exchanged for wallpapers or missed cards.
- Profile Pictures: Icons featuring characters from the game are available in Mission & Rewards on the Switch until October 23rd.
Is a Majora’s Mask Remake Coming?
There is no announcement regarding this. Nintendo's big game for the end of the year is a full Switch 2 remake of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, releasing on November 5, 2026. Whether Majora’s Mask will also be re-released afterward remains to be seen. Nintendo Life explicitly wishes for it – and so do we.
From our perspective, the order makes sense: The anniversary is driven by Ocarina of Time as the main attraction, while Majora’s Mask keeps attention warm with its soundtrack and promotions. The game is considered a cult classic among fans due to its dark atmosphere and the three-day time loop, and the music contributes significantly to this ambiance.
For players, this specifically means: those who use Nintendo Music can look forward to new titles this week. For profile pictures, it's worth checking the Mission & Rewards page on the Switch, as the icons are only available until October 23rd.
