Microsoft is launching the smallest controller in its history: The XBOX Nano Controller was unveiled today, costs $49.99 USD, and is available for pre-order now. The market launch is in November.
According to Xbox Wire, the controller is a good 5 inches long (around 13 centimeters) and weighs only 3.5 ounces (just under 100 grams). Microsoft states it's shorter and lighter than most modern smartphones.
What Can the XBOX Nano Controller Do?
- All 18 standard inputs of the familiar Xbox layout
- Built-in, rechargeable battery
- Programmable action button, for example, for screenshots or gameplay recordings
- Connects via XBOX Wireless and Bluetooth to compatible devices
According to Microsoft, the target audience includes younger players, those with smaller hands, and anyone who wants to play on the go. The manufacturer cites Minecraft Dungeons II with local co-op for up to four players and Forza Horizon 6 as game examples.
When and Where Will the Nano Controller Be Released?
Pre-orders begin today, with shipments starting in November. Countries mentioned include Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Great Britain, the USA, Japan, and many more, with additional markets to follow. Prices and availability may vary by country; the $49.99 USD price applies to the USA. The source does not mention a Euro price.
At launch, there are two promotions in the USA: With selected Samsung TVs, a Nano Controller is offered along with two months of Game Pass Ultimate (for new customers). A similar promotion is available with Meta when purchasing a Meta Quest.
Is the Mini-Controller Worth It For You?
From our perspective, the Nano is particularly interesting as a secondary controller for on-the-go gaming and for children. Whether the ergonomics convince during longer sessions can only be determined through testing, as there are no independent impressions yet. The price is, in any case, clearly below that of a classic full-sized pad.
