MIBR's run in the VCT 2026: Americas Stage 2 Playoffs has definitively come to an end on Sunday night: In their Lower Bracket match against Evil Geniuses, the Brazilian team was defeated and is now eliminated from the tournament.
How was MIBR Eliminated from the VCT Americas Playoffs?
The path to elimination was a bitter one for MIBR: First, the team lost in the Upper Bracket against LEVIATÁN, consequently dropping into the Lower Bracket. There, on August 29th (8:00 PM US East Coast local time), they faced Evil Geniuses – and had to concede defeat once again. For Evil Geniuses, the win is a crucial step to continue pushing towards the Playoffs Grand Final in the Lower Bracket; for MIBR, the Stage 2 season ends prematurely.
What Does This Elimination Mean for MIBR?
For the organization, it's the next setback in an already challenging VCT Americas season. The Lower Bracket format of the VCT Playoffs is unforgiving: Whoever loses there is immediately out – unlike in the regular group stage, there are no second chances. MIBR must thus prematurely bow out of the race for one of the coveted spots in the Champions Shanghai Playoffs, while Evil Geniuses keeps their chances alive. The Pacific region recently demonstrated just how close and intense Lower Bracket duels generally are this VCT season: There, Nongshim RedForce recently knocked out favorite Gen.G from the playoffs.
