Ubisoft Plans to Shut Down Trials Studio RedLynx – 70 Layoffs in Singapore

Bad news for Trials fans: According to Video Games Chronicle, Ubisoft plans to shut down Finnish studio RedLynx. Additionally, Ubisoft Singapore is expected to be downsized, with around 70 jobs cut there. These are plans based on industry information ("VGC understands"), and we have not yet seen official confirmation.

Why Does Ubisoft Want to Shut Down RedLynx?

Ubisoft is currently reviewing the future viability of its individual studios – in terms of both ongoing projects and profitability. The assessment for RedLynx apparently yielded a clear result: The studio is not currently working on any new project, and according to the report, a mere downsizing would not make it sustainable. Therefore, its closure is expected to be proposed. Approximately 52 employees would be affected.

In Finland, so-called Change Negotiations are required for this. These are mandatory discussions between the employer and staff that come into play when a company employs at least 50 people and makes decisions affecting jobs. The outcome could therefore still change.

What's Happening in Singapore?

Ubisoft Singapore was founded in 2008 to establish a production network in Southeast Asia. The studio assisted with most Assassin’s Creed titles released to date and led the development of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced. Now, Ubisoft aims to restructure and downsize it, resulting in 70 layoffs.

How Did Things Come to This for the Trials Creators?

RedLynx was founded in Helsinki in 2000. Its breakthrough came with Trials HD on Xbox Live Arcade, after which Ubisoft acquired the studio in 2011. This was followed by Trials Evolution, Trials Frontier, Trials Fusion, Trials of the Blood Dragon, and Trials Rising. However, since Trials Rising (2019), the output has significantly thinned out:

  • In 2020, RedLynx, along with Massive Entertainment, helped bring The Division 2 to Google Stadia.
  • The mobile game Gwen’s Getaway entered soft launch in 2023 and was discontinued in December 2024.
  • In October 2025, Ubisoft announced plans to cut up to 60 jobs – RedLynx was to focus on mobile.
  • Most recently, the studio supported Massive Entertainment with the Switch 2 port of Star Wars Outlaws.

What Does This Mean for Trials Players?

Specifically, nothing changes for existing games for now. However, anyone who was hoping for a new Trials game will likely have to bury that hope for good: Without a studio and without an ongoing project, a successor is hardly conceivable, unless Ubisoft assigns the brand to another team.

From our perspective, this news fits the picture: Last year's pivot to mobile already seemed like a stopgap solution, and Gwen’s Getaway didn't save it. For a studio that has shaped an entire genre niche, this is a sad end – if it comes to pass.
