Falcom has just released a free demo for Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter – simultaneously with a new opening movie that captures the RPG's atmosphere and story tone. If you've been unsure whether this revamped JRPG is for you, you can now experience it for yourself beforehand.
What's Included in the Free Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter Demo?
The demo includes the complete prologue "A Young Woman's Resolve" as well as Chapter 1 "Creeping Shadows" and is now available for free download on PS5, Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, and PC via Steam. Especially convenient: Save data from the demo can be directly transferred to the full version upon purchase, so no one has to start over. The Switch version of the demo runs on both the original Switch and the new Switch 2.
When Does the Full Version of Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter Release?
The complete full version of Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter will be released worldwide on September 17, 2026, also for PS5, Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, and PC. The RPG is a fully revamped remake of the second chapter of the Liberl Trilogy, featuring completely updated 3D graphics, and continues the story of Estelle Bright as she searches for Joshua amidst a growing continental conspiracy after his disappearance.
For series fans, this remake is more than just a technical update: The original Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter from 2006 has long been considered by the community as one of the most emotional turning points in the entire Trails series, partly due to the infamous cliffhanger at the end of the first chapter. Those who have already played the remake of the first part can now seamlessly use the demo to check if the revamped look and overhauled combat system feel good in the second chapter before committing to the full price.
What Does the New Opening Movie Show?
In parallel with the demo, Falcom has released a new opening movie, which showcases the central characters, including Estelle and Joshua, and the atmosphere of the Kingdom of Liberl in motion. The video is available on Falcom's official YouTube channel.
