Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter: Legacy Patch 1.0.7 Delivers Key Terminology Adjustments

Nihon Falcom has released the Legacy Patch version 1.0.7 for Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter. While it might sound like a dry footnote at first, it's an important step for all Trails fans: the update aligns the game's core terminology with that of the rest of the Trails series, which are significantly newer.

This comes ahead of the upcoming release of Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter on September 17, 2026. To ensure newcomers and series veterans don't stumble over every term, Nihon Falcom intends to bring the Sky trilogy's terminology closer to the later titles.

What Exactly Does the Legacy Patch Change?

The patch specifically addresses instances where terms have diverged over the years due to different translations. Here's an overview of the most important changes:

  • Key terms have been aligned with the terminology of later Trails titles, prioritized by their importance for series continuity.
  • Terms and character names that appear exclusively in Trails in the Sky largely remain untouched.
  • Exception: The names of the Tetracyclic Towers have been adjusted because these locations play a central role in the story of the upcoming 2nd Chapter.
  • Revised English voice acting, texts, and UI elements in several places throughout the game.
  • Adjusted in-game graphics that visually reflect the new terms.

Why is a Ten-Year-Old Game Receiving an Update Now?

The Trails series (originally The Legend of Heroes: Trails) now encompasses over a dozen games, localized by various teams over more than 15 years. Anyone who started with Trails in the Sky and later moved on to newer installments like Trails through Daybreak knows the problem: names, factions, and technical terms weren't always translated consistently, making it difficult for newcomers to get their bearings. The Legacy Patch is part of a broader strategy by Falcom and its Western publishers to position the early Sky games as a clean, understandable entry point into the vast world of Zemuria before the next major building block, 2nd Chapter, arrives.

From our perspective, this is a smart, albeit late, move: Precisely because the Trails series is famous for its dense lore, distributed over dozens of hours of gameplay, consistent terminology will pay off more in the long run than short-term community discussions about changed names.
