Naughty Dog means business: Studio head Neil Druckmann has confirmed that two more projects set in the universe of The Last of Us are in the works. According to the studio, both are still in a “very early stage.” At the same time, the team is tempering expectations for its next big game: Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet will not be properly shown until 2027.
Druckmann made the announcement in a letter for this year's The Last of Us Day. We had previously reported that Naughty Dog was hinting at big announcements – see our report on the teaser for The Last of Us Day 2026. Now the reveal is on the table, and it comes in two parts.
What Is Known About the Two New The Last of Us Projects?
In short: very little. All that's confirmed is that there are two new undertakings within the franchise and that both have just begun. Naughty Dog has not mentioned anything about genre, platforms, setting, or release year. The announcement leaves open whether they are games, expansions, or entirely different formats. Anything beyond that would be speculation – and we're deliberately avoiding that.
When Will Naughty Dog Show Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet?
For the rest of 2026, the studio intends to keep a low profile. The big reveal for Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet will not happen until 2027. So, anyone who hoped for a release date or gameplay this fall will have to keep waiting. According to previous reports, Naughty Dog is working on its most ambitious game to date – so it's understandable that they're taking their time instead of rushing into the hustle and bustle of fall presentations with half-finished impressions.
What Does This Mean for Fans and PlayStation?
For players, this primarily means patience. Neither the new projects nor Intergalactic will be playable anytime soon. From our perspective, the news is still cleverly timed: The Last of Us Day is the most emotional date on the fan calendar, and Naughty Dog is showing that the brand isn't being shelved after Part 2 and the TV series. At the same time, the studio is sending a clear signal that it intends to work on two major projects in parallel. Whether that goes well remains to be seen once concrete content is revealed – until then, it remains merely a statement of intent. Looking at the studio's history, caution is advised: traditionally, several years pass at Naughty Dog from an initial confirmation to a finished game.
We will keep you updated as soon as official details emerge about both projects or Intergalactic. You can find official information about the studio on the Naughty Dog website.
