The Blood of Dawnwalker: Official System Requirements Spark Hardware Debate

Developer studio Rebel Wolves has published the official PC system requirements for its vampire action RPG The Blood of Dawnwalker – and the values for the highest detail level are already sparking discussions in the community even before its September 3rd release.

Here's What You Need to Play

Rebel Wolves' table lists five tiers, from Minimum to Ultra. Here are the most important key specs summarized:

  • Minimum (native 1080p, 30 FPS): Intel Core i7-8700K or AMD Ryzen 7 3700X, 16 GB RAM, Nvidia RTX 3050 / GTX 1070 or AMD RX Vega 56, 6 GB VRAM
  • Recommended for 1080p (native 1080p, 60 FPS): Intel Core i5-13600 or Ryzen 9 7900X, Nvidia RTX 5060 or AMD RX 6800-XT, 12 GB VRAM
  • Recommended for 1440p (native 1440p, 60 FPS): same CPU class, but Nvidia RTX 4070-Ti or AMD RX 7800-XT, also 12 GB VRAM
  • Ultra 1440p (native 1440p, 60 FPS): Intel Core i5-13600K or Ryzen 9 7950X, Nvidia RTX 4080 or AMD RX 7900-XTX, 16 GB VRAM
  • Ultra 4K (native 2160p, 60 FPS): same CPU class, but an Nvidia RTX 5090, 16 GB VRAM

For all tiers: 16 GB RAM, at least 60 GB free SSD space, Windows 10, and DirectX 12 are required. Important according to Rebel Wolves: These values are for native performance, entirely without upscaling – while DLSS and FSR are supported and can further improve performance, they are not factored into the official specifications.

Why the Ultra Setting is Causing Discussion

The main trigger for the debate is the Ultra 4K recommendation: An RTX 5090 is currently one of the most expensive graphics cards on the market, is correspondingly difficult to obtain, and simply not a realistic option for most gamers. On Reddit, discussions are raging about whether such requirements still serve the broad PC gaming community or if studios are increasingly optimizing only for a small target group of enthusiasts with high-end hardware. Responsible for the high demands is the use of current Unreal Engine 5 features such as Lumen for global illumination and Nanite for extremely detailed geometry – both techniques look impressive but come with a noticeable performance cost.

Perspective: Not a New Phenomenon, but a Recurring One

From our perspective, The Blood of Dawnwalker joins a long list of UE5 titles that have regularly sparked this very discussion in recent years – from tech-demo-worthy Ultra settings that hardly anyone can use, to noticeably more relaxed minimum requirements for entry-level play. According to the table, those who just want to play in 1080p at a solid 60 FPS can get by with significantly more affordable hardware than the Ultra headlines might suggest – the recommendation for 1080p/60 FPS with an RTX 5060 or RX 6800-XT is well within reach for many PC gamers.
