Resident Evil Requiem Cracks $500 Million Mark

Resident Evil Requiem is one of the biggest successes in the series' history. An independent sales analysis by Alinea Analytics shows: The game has now surpassed the $500 million revenue mark. Approximately 8.5 million units have been sold so far – faster than any other installment in the series before it.

A clear picture emerges from the platform split: On Capcom's official Resident Evil Requiem page, the strong PS5 performance is particularly celebrated. Sony consoles account for 48.1 percent of all players. The Steam Store follows closely behind with 43.4 percent. In contrast, the Xbox version trails significantly with only 8.6 percent.

Why Did the Price Cut on PS5 Double Sales?

A targeted price deal on PlayStation 5 provided a significant boost, according to the analysis: Following the reduction, daily sales figures on the platform nearly doubled. For Capcom, this is a strong signal that discount promotions, even for a major blockbuster like Requiem, pay off months after release – especially when the price drops noticeably instead of just offering a few Euros off.

How Strongly Did the Film Release Impact Player Numbers?

The cinematic release of the new Resident Evil film also had a measurable effect: According to Alinea Analytics, Requiem's daily active player numbers (DAU) increased by 20 percent. This is a good example of how closely intertwined film and game have become in the Resident Evil franchise – a box office success evidently draws both old and new fans back to their controllers.

Our Assessment: These figures place Requiem at the forefront of the series. Previously, the Resident Evil 4 remake held the record with over $600 million in total revenue – but over a significantly longer period. Requiem is reaching half a billion noticeably faster. For us, this indicates that Capcom's mix of a dual-protagonist setup with Leon S. Kennedy and Grace Ashcroft, cross-media marketing centered around the film, and perfectly timed price promotions is paying off completely so far. For those still hesitating: On PS5 and Steam, it's worth checking the store now before the next wave of discounts passes.
