PS5 Pro Now Costs Over 1,300 Euros – GTA 6 and the Memory Crisis Are Driving Up the Price

Anyone who was speculating on a PlayStation 5 Pro before the launch of GTA 6 is in for a price shock. According to price comparison sites like Idealo, you now pay at least around 1,300 Euros for Sony's top model in Germany. Some retailers are asking for up to 1,860 Euros. GameStar reports this. The release of GTA 6 is scheduled for November 19th.

How expensive is the PS5 Pro currently?

  • At launch in late 2024, the MSRP was around 800 Euros.
  • In spring 2026, Sony raised the prices of all PlayStation models; the Pro's MSRP increased to around 900 Euros.
  • According to Idealo, the cheapest retailers are currently asking around 1,300 Euros.
  • At Otto and Notebooks Billiger, it's over 1,400 Euros, and at Voelkner, more than 1,800 Euros.
  • On Amazon, the console is sold out.
  • The disc drive costs around 120 Euros extra, and the vertical stand around 30 Euros.

Why Is the PS5 Pro Price Rising So Sharply?

According to GameStar, several factors are converging. As early as August, it became clear that GTA 6 was a price driver; back then, the price slipped above the 1,000-Euro mark. New visuals and the start of pre-orders in summer fueled demand. Added to this is the global memory crisis: chip manufacturers are primarily using their capacities for lucrative server memory chips, and due to the AI boom, supplies for the mass market are lacking. Even used consoles now cost four-figure sums.

What Alternatives Are There for the GTA 6 Launch?

The good news: You don't necessarily need the Pro. According to GameStar, the standard PS5, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S are still available and well under 1,000 Euros. GTA 6 is expected to be playable on all consoles; differences between the systems will only be revealed by tests. Switching to PC is not an option at launch: Rockstar is initially only serving consoles, and a PC version is not officially confirmed.

From our perspective, it's worth not buying in a panic. At exorbitant prices of over 1,300 Euros for a console whose MSRP is 900 Euros, you're only encouraging price gouging. How the market develops after the release is open; December is traditionally a strong month for console sales. Regarding GTA 6 itself, we recently reported on Xbox's denial of exclusive cloud streaming and PC access.
