Phantom Blade Zero is getting its own spotlight: Sony has announced a dedicated State of Play for the action RPG from developer S-GAME. As IGN and Video Games Chronicle report, the show will take place on August 17th. In parallel, an approximately eleven-minute trailer has already been released, offering a deeper look into the game.
What the New Trailer Shows
The assassin Soul remains at the center, whose story, according to previous reports, is marked by a ticking countdown. The involvement of martial arts star Donnie Yen has been newly confirmed; according to the developer, he contributes his face and movements for a key character in the game. The trailer also delves into the setting and combat system of the title, described as “Kungfu-Punk,” which shows references to series like Ninja Gaiden and Devil May Cry. According to Sony's announcement, the show on August 17th will feature almost 20 minutes of additional gameplay and further elaborate on what the current trailer already hints at.
Release Date and Pre-orders Confirmed
Simultaneously with the trailer, pre-orders for Phantom Blade Zero have started on the PlayStation Store. The release date is set for October 29, 2026, initially exclusive to PS5. IGN playfully comments that the announcement coincides with Sony's controversial decision to gradually phase out physical PS5 discs in the long term – a topic that is already causing discussions in the community and currently shapes reactions to every new Sony announcement.
