Overwatch 2 is getting a breath of fresh air: Season 4 is here, and with it, the game's 53rd hero takes the stage. The new tank goes by the name D.Mon, and long-time players might even recognize her name – she's always been a part of Overwatch lore, just never playable. Additionally, there are three reworked maps and a new Battle Pass progression system. Plenty of content for a solid season launch.
The new Overwatch 2 season went live on August 11th at 2 PM Eastern Time (late afternoon German time). Simultaneously, Blizzard released the complete patch notes.
What's New in Season 4
Here's an overview of the most important changes, curated and summarized in our own words:
- New hero D.Mon (civilian name Yuna Lee) joins the roster as the 15th tank character. She fights in her “Beast” combat mech with a sword, shield, and a machine gun – offering both melee and ranged combat options in one kit.
- The Eichenwalde map has been reworked: New elevated terrain near the attacker spawn, as well as an additional flanking route for flying heroes like Pharah, aim to balance out the long-criticized defender advantage at the first choke point.
- Busan and Paraíso have also been adjusted. Paraíso now features a Domina statue directly at the first objective, offering additional cover in what was previously a very open teamfight area.
- An accompanying hero balance update adjusts the stats, abilities, and perks of several heroes.
- The Battle Pass has been restructured: Instead of immediately unlocking all reward tracks, you'll start with an introductory track before choosing from five additional tracks.
Why D.Mon is More Than Just a New Tank for Overwatch
Anyone who follows Overwatch lore has known Yuna Lee for a long time: She was part of the MEKA unit from Busan, the same squad D.Va hails from. For years, she defended the city in the background in her own mech, without players ever being able to control her themselves. With D.Mon, Overwatch now gets its second MEKA pilot as a playable hero – and for the first time, a tank that combines melee and ranged combat as directly as she does. From our perspective, this is precisely the most exciting part of this season launch: New tanks in Overwatch typically shift the meta more significantly than new DPS or support heroes, because they dictate the pace of entire teamfights. Just how much D.Mon will shake up the tank duo system will only become clear in the first few weeks of ranked play.
