Over a year after the launch of Oblivion Remastered, Bethesda has finally responded: The studio confirms that another update for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S is in the works. The announcement comes after months of fans loudly calling for noticeable improvements.
Why the Community Has Been Restless for Months
The remaster of the Elder Scrolls IV classic was technically impressive at release, but soon after, significant problems emerged, especially on PC: crashes, stutters, and performance drops plague the game to this day. So far, Bethesda has only released two minor patches, with the last major patch being over a year ago. For a game of this magnitude, that's unusually long, and frustration was accordingly high in forums and on Reddit.
What the New Patch Aims to Bring
The specific trigger for the announcement is the freshly released Switch 2 version of Oblivion Remastered, which launched on August 11th and came directly with its own optimization patch. Bethesda stated that they are now investigating whether these very optimizations can also be transferred to PC, PS5, and Xbox. The studio has not yet provided a concrete date or a list of changes – only that they are working on it.
What Players Need to Know Now
Those hoping for a quick fix will have to remain patient: without a date, it remains unclear whether the patch will arrive this year. From our perspective, it's still noteworthy that Bethesda is reacting publicly at all – especially since the studio is simultaneously working at full throttle on The Elder Scrolls 6 and Oblivion Remastered could easily fall out of focus. Anyone currently playing the PC or console version should continue to expect occasional stutters and crashes until the update is actually rolled out.
