Konami has delivered: Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 is available starting today for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, and PC via Steam – priced at $49.99. This means the series' re-release, which began in 2023, finally gets its second round, and it's a substantial one.
What's Included in Master Collection Vol. 2?
The centerpiece of the collection is undoubtedly Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. The conclusion to Solid Snake's story, released exclusively for PlayStation 3 in 2008, thus leaves the old Sony console for the very first time. Additionally, it includes Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker in its familiar HD version from the PS3/Vita Collection, as well as the rare Game Boy Color game Metal Gear: Ghost Babel from 2000 as a digital bonus, which very few Western fans have ever played until now.
What Are the Pre-Order Bonuses?
Those who pre-ordered receive two cosmetic extras: the cardboard camouflage pattern for Solid Snake in MGS4, as well as the “Love Box” cardboard skin in Peace Walker – both charming inside jokes for anyone who remembers the series' legendary cardboard box stealth.
Why Is the MGS4 Port Such a Big Deal for Fans?
MGS4 was long considered the most inaccessible main entry in the series because it was technically tied closely to the PS3 hardware and never officially released on modern platforms. For years, emulation and gray market imports were the only way for many fans to experience the conclusion of Solid Snake's story. Konami delivering this port now closes one of the last major gaps in the series' official availability – after Vol. 1 with the first three installments, the MGS re-release is now almost complete in terms of content; only Metal Gear Solid V is truly missing.
