Another day, another Marvel fighter: Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls has been available for PS5 and PC since August 6, 2026. The game is developed by Arc System Works, the creators of Guilty Gear and Dragon Ball FighterZ, and published by PlayStation and Marvel Games. Instead of the familiar 1v1 duels, Tōkon focuses on genuine 4v4 tag-team battles – a significant departure from the classic Marvel Vs. format.
What Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls Offers at Launch
- 20 characters are available at launch, from classics to less obvious Marvel names.
- 4v4 Tag-Team Battles: Teams actively switch between their fighters, promising significantly more tactical depth than classic 1v1 fighters.
- Crossplay between PS5 and PC is included from the start.
- The Standard Edition costs $59.99 USD, with a staggered release in Europe and Asia on August 7th.
Why the Fighting Game Genre Should Be Excited
Arc System Works has proven with Guilty Gear Strive and especially Dragon Ball FighterZ that they can build team-based fighting games with high production value and an accessible yet deep combat system – the closed beta for Tōkon was accordingly described by the community as having “FighterZ energy.” However, it's noteworthy that Sony only gave testers access to review code on launch day itself, as the multiplayer servers were only activated then. Therefore, traditional reviews were not available at the time of release. This is not an unusual practice for heavily multiplayer-focused fighting games, but it means for those interested: if you're unsure, you should wait for the community's initial reactions and netcode experience reports over the next few days before buying at full price – especially since online stability often determines the success or flop of fighting games.
