Larry is making way: Publisher Assemble Entertainment has announced that the last two Leisure Suit Larry games will no longer be available on Steam starting October 23. The affected titles are “Wet Dreams Don’t Dry” (2018) and “Wet Dreams Dry Twice” (2020).
Which Leisure Suit Larry Games Are Affected?
Last year, the Sierra classics Leisure Suit Larry 1 through 7 (a fourth installment never existed) and “Magna Cum Laude” by High Voltage Software were already removed from Steam. The only other installment in the series is the eighth part, “Box Office Bust,” by Team17, which is also not available online anywhere. With these two new delistings, the series will disappear from all digital platforms except GOG.
Assemble wrote on Steam: “Wet Dreams Don’t Dry” and “Wet Dreams Dry Twice” will only be available until October 23. They could not say anything about the future of the character. The publisher did not provide a reason for the removal.
What Do the Games Cost Now?
Before their departure, there's a sale: Both games are discounted by 95 percent, reportedly on Steam initially only in the USA. On GOG and Switch, they currently cost $1.99 or £0.89 each, instead of $39.99 or £35.99. It's still unclear if the Xbox and PlayStation stores will follow suit.
Why Are the Larry Games Being Removed from the Store At All?
Officially, there is no explanation for this. A clue comes from an assessment by Phil Salvador, Library Director of the Video Game History Foundation, which he shared on Bluesky during the first delisting: An old Steam message from 2018 stated that the brand belongs to Codemasters and Assemble had only licensed exclusive online distribution rights. Since Electronic Arts now owns Codemasters, the license might have expired or been terminated. However, this is speculation and not confirmed. This aligns with the fact that the series remains available on GOG: According to the old message, the license does not cover GOG. It remains to be seen if the games will stay there.
Our Take: What Does This Mean for Players?
From our perspective, this case is another example of how quickly digital games can disappear from stores. If you want to play these two installments, you should grab them before October 23. Steam buyers will keep their games in their library, but new buyers will no longer have a chance to get them this way afterward. If you're unsure, it's better to additionally buy a DRM-free version from GOG while it's still available there.
