What has been circulating as a rumor for weeks is now official: Paradox Interactive unveiled LEGO Skylines, a city builder with a LEGO look, at Gamescom Opening Night Live. The game is being developed by Iceflake Studios – the team currently also responsible for Cities: Skylines II.
What exactly is LEGO Skylines?
LEGO Skylines adopts the familiar framework of the Cities: Skylines series: players manage electricity, water, food supply, hospitals, waste collection, and sewage, build residential homes, create jobs, and lay out parks. The kicker: Visually, the entire city is made of LEGO bricks, including the brand's characteristic blocky-playful building aesthetic.
When will LEGO Skylines be released?
A release date has not yet been set. The platforms confirmed so far are: PC (Steam), PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2. Interested players can add the game to their wishlist on the official website immediately.
How did the LEGO Skylines announcement come about?
For context: Already in the summer, initial rumors surfaced about a LEGO spin-off of the Cities: Skylines series, at that time without official confirmation. These leaks have now proven correct with the announcement – a pattern often observed with Paradox projects in recent years, as brand collaborations like these often leak early through licensing documents or store listings. For the LEGO brand, it's also another step away from pure building games towards full-fledged management simulations, after the company has recently ventured more into genres outside the classic block-sandbox.
