Those who prefer to experience Vice City from a first-person perspective will have to be patient, at least for the launch of GTA 6. According to Rockstar, there will be no full-fledged first-person mode in November, unlike what players are familiar with from GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2. This information comes from a recent preview where a creator was allowed to play exclusively at Rockstar North for several hours.
A Co-Studio Director from Rockstar North reportedly confirmed on-site: At launch, GTA 6 cannot be experienced entirely from a first-person view. He left open whether and when this feature might be added later. Nevertheless: When aiming with certain weapons, the camera already moves significantly closer to protagonists Lucia and Jason, meaning the third-person perspective doesn't completely disappear in these instances.
Why Is Rockstar Omitting the First-Person Perspective in GTA 6?
Rockstar itself justifies the decision by stating that GTA 6 was designed from the ground up as a third-person experience. Camera, animations, and the staging of the story around Jason and Lucia are thus tailored from the outset to the third-person perspective, not to a first-person mode added later. Integrating a complete first-person mode would therefore be significantly more than just a camera option – it would affect entire movement sequences, the cover system, and cutscenes.
What Does the Absence of First-Person Mode Mean for GTA 6 Players?
To put this into perspective, it's worth looking back: Even GTA 5 launched in 2013 entirely without a first-person mode. Rockstar only added the first-person perspective more than a year later, with the next-gen update for PS4 and Xbox One in November 2014. With Red Dead Redemption 2, it was the other way around: the first-person mode was part of the launch package. The GTA 5 story thus shows that an absence at launch doesn't necessarily mean the feature will never come.

For you, this specifically means: Those who wanted to play GTA 6 primarily like a true first-person shooter must either hope for an update or settle for the limited first-person view while aiming. On the other hand, those who already prefer playing from the third-person perspective will barely notice the missing feature. From our point of view, the omission at launch is understandable if it helps such a complex, intricately staged game be completed on time – nevertheless, the community is unlikely to let go of this topic until the November release, as the first-person perspective became a popular mode in GTA 5. If you're already eager for the perfect Vice City atmosphere, you can already shorten the wait until November with the soundtrack.
