Twitch star Kai Cenat is facing a substantial lawsuit through his company. Independent musician Caleb Gottfried, known by his artist name SNVRK, has filed a complaint against Kai Cenat LLC and talent agency Night Media in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York (SDNY). He is seeking more than $330,000 in damages.
Plaintiff's Allegations Against Kai Cenat's Company
According to the complaint, Gottfried participated in the casting for this year's Streamer University on June 12th at the John Jay College of Criminal Justice in Manhattan. He claims to have been exposed to near-heatstroke conditions twice because participants were allegedly crammed into a closed, poorly ventilated area. Additionally, he accuses the production of using his likeness as unpaid extra footage in official promotional content without any consent or release. The lawsuit invokes both general liability for hazardous conditions and violations of New York Civil Rights Law (Sections 50–51), which regulates the commercial use of one's image without consent. Gottfried is also demanding in court that Kai Cenat's company release and permanently delete all raw footage from the casting day in which he appears.
Streamer University's Growth – And Increasing Organizational Pressure
Since its inaugural run, Streamer University has evolved into one of the largest content creator events in the USA. The second edition already took place in 2026 with a significantly expanded lineup of prominent streamers. However, with the growing scale of such formats, the risk of organizational mishaps apparently also increases: Just recently, another incident at the Red Bull Streamer Games made headlines when a streamer illegally entered the competition area during an archery contest and was nearly hit by an arrow. While both cases are legally and substantively independent, they reveal the same trend: the larger and more commercial live events involving streamers become, the more closely the public scrutinizes safety protocols and the personal rights of participants. For Kai Cenat's company, the outcome of this lawsuit is likely to be relevant for future editions of Streamer University.
