It's official: A second installment of Hogwarts Legacy is coming. Warner Bros. Discovery confirmed the sequel today, August 13, 2026, in its Q2 2026 shareholder letter. The letter literally refers to “the second installment of Hogwarts Legacy” — but an official title, a release date, or any initial gameplay impressions are completely absent. This was reported by GamePro, among others, citing the investor document.
Specifically, the letter states that the games segment is expected to contribute more significantly to the group's results in the future, thanks in part to a growing pipeline that includes the second Hogwarts Legacy installment. The original game was developed by Avalanche Software on behalf of Warner Bros. Games, the publisher behind the Harry Potter game series. Whether the studio will also develop the sequel has not yet been confirmed.
How Successful Was the First Hogwarts Legacy?

When Will Hogwarts Legacy 2 Be Released?
That exact question cannot be answered reliably at this time. The shareholder letter mentions neither platforms nor a specific timeframe. According to reports, Warner Bros. had previously hinted internally at a possible release year of 2027 earlier this year, but this has not been officially confirmed. For an open-world role-playing game of this magnitude, development times of several years are the norm, so anyone already hoping for a trailer with gameplay will likely have to be patient for much longer. Experience shows that publishers often confirm such projects years before the actual marketing launch, primarily to keep investors and shareholders content.
The announcement is also interesting given the precarious situation at Warner Bros.
