Halo: Campaign Evolved Sells Poorly – Missing Multiplayer Cited as Main Reason

Halo: Campaign Evolved, the ambitious remake of the original Halo 1 campaign and the series' debut on PlayStation, is reportedly selling significantly worse than anticipated, according to Eurogamer. Its launch sales are notably trailing behind those of recent Black Ops revivals from the Call of Duty franchise.

Why Sales Are Falling Short of Expectations

The report points to the lack of a multiplayer mode at launch as the most likely culprit. This omission is particularly impactful for a franchise largely defined by its multiplayer component: players looking to enjoy classic Halo online with friends are simply left without an option, forced to stick to the single-player campaign. This is likely discouraging players, especially those who had hoped for a new, expansive Halo community with the multiplatform release on PlayStation.

A Pattern for Xbox Game Studios

The game's poor launch sales contribute to an already tense period for Halo Studios, the team behind the title. We previously reported on the wave of layoffs at Halo Studios immediately following Campaign Evolved's release. Disappointing sales figures could now intensify the pressure on the studio, though a single launch period doesn't represent a final tally.

From our perspective, the decision to launch without multiplayer was understandably risky: Halo has always thrived on its community, built around ranked playlists, custom games, and LAN culture. While adding the mode later via an update could still turn sales around in the medium term, this is only possible if Microsoft and Halo Studios don't further erode player trust with additional delays. For those currently considering a purchase, be aware: for now, you're getting exclusively the revamped solo campaign, with no online multiplayer mode.
