Rockstar is going big once again before the release of GTA 6: The NBA club Miami Heat will play as "Vice City" on November 18th. IGN and VGC report this. The date is exactly one day before the game's launch on November 19th.
The event is called "A Night in Vice City" and will take place at 7 PM US Eastern Time at the Kaseya Center, broadcast live on ESPN. The opponents are the Milwaukee Bucks. The Heat will sport a completely new jersey, playing on a custom-built "Vice City Court." Additionally, there will be special promotions in the arena and crossover merch at the Heat shop.
What's Planned for "A Night in Vice City"?
- Date: November 18th, 7 PM EST (1 AM on November 19th German time)
- Opponent: Milwaukee Bucks, live broadcast on ESPN
- New jersey and a never-before-seen court with a Vice City look
- Additional promotions and Vice City merchandise in the arena
Fittingly, according to IGN, the Kaseya Center's roof was already illuminated in Vice City colors the day before. While Rockstar hasn't officially confirmed the partnership in every detail, IGN assumes that Take-Two and Rockstar are behind the initiative.
Why is Miami so Important for GTA 6?
Because Vice City is nothing less than Rockstar's version of Miami. GTA 6 is set in Leonida, the fictional Florida, and Vice City is its centerpiece. Incidentally, in the game world, the Heat's arena is called "Sahara Arena." Thus, the game's in-game city's real-world counterpart is the logical stage for Rockstar. According to IGN, there had recently been lengthy negotiations with the city about how much Rockstar could use Miami for advertising.
What Does This Mean for Everyone Who Wants to Play GTA 6?
Directly, nothing; there are no in-game items or bonuses mentioned in the report. However, it shows how extensive the marketing machine is running for the launch. For context: According to IGN, the Standard Edition costs $79.99 USD, and the Ultimate Edition costs $99.99, with GTA 6 set to release for PS5 and Xbox Series on November 19th.
Those who want to get in the mood for the game world can find further insights in our report on the detailed NPCs in Vice City. From our perspective, the Heat show is a clever move: a basketball night on ESPN reaches people who don't usually read gaming sites.
