Anyone cruising through Leonida in GTA 6 should probably forget about visiting theme parks: Rockstar hints that Disney World and SeaWorld will likely not appear in the game world.
The statement comes from the big Game Informer cover story on GTA 6, which has been online since September 29th. According to IGN, the interview implies that Rockstar's fictional version of Florida won't recreate every well-known tourist attraction of its real-world counterpart. IGN explicitly names Disney World and SeaWorld as examples that are likely to be missing. This isn't a firm, official denial in so many words, but rather an intimation.
What did Rockstar say in Game Informer about Leonida?
The 14-page cover story revolves around how Rockstar built its Florida counterpart. The studio researched the real region to make Vice City and its surrounding areas feel credible and alive. It was already known that there's new material regarding weather and wildlife. The theme park question is a side aspect, but an obvious one: for many, Florida and theme parks are inextricably linked.
Why is Rockstar likely foregoing real brands?
This fits with Rockstar's tradition: for years, the series has relied on parodies instead of real places and brands. Los Santos is a distorted Los Angeles, Vinewood replaces Hollywood, and even the early Vice City from 2002 was a fictional Miami version. A Disney park would also be legally delicate in terms of licensing, especially since GTA is known for being satirical and violent. This is our interpretation; Rockstar has not commented on the reasons.
What does this mean for you as players?
Specifically, this means: don't expect a 1:1 recreation of the well-known parks. However, it remains very possible that Rockstar will include its own exaggerated amusement park as a parody, as attractions like fairgrounds were already part of the world in previous installments. This is not confirmed, so please don't pass it on as fact. More important for daily gameplay anyway is how dense and detailed the world becomes. Our report on NPCs in Vice City also shows how exactly Rockstar fills the city, and we've summarized the other new details from the cover story in our overview of weather, wildlife, and the twelve new screenshots.
From our perspective, the absence of real parks is no loss. A fictional world with its own gags and locations better fits the tone of the series than simply replicating real brands. The crucial factor will be whether Leonida offers enough unique highlights beyond its beaches. Quite a few more details are likely to trickle out before release.
