Will GTA 6 also come to the Nintendo Switch 2? A clear answer remains elusive. Nintendo of America President Devon Pritchard has now deferred the question to the developers, as IGN reports.
Speaking to Variety, Pritchard said: "That will be a conversation for Take-Two and Rockstar, but I currently have nothing to announce." A denial sounds different, but so does an affirmation.
What Did Nintendo Say About GTA 6 on Switch 2?
According to IGN, Pritchard spoke generally about Nintendo's plans, from theme parks to games by Nintendo itself and third-party developers. With the Switch 2, the door is open for titles that have skipped earlier Nintendo consoles. IGN cites Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, which is set to appear with the Switch 2, as an example.
Additionally, Pritchard emphasized that Nintendo continues to stand for "ages 5 to 95." They want to offer the widest possible variety of experiences on the system. No further mention of GTA 6 was made in this context.
Will GTA 6 Even Run on the Switch 2?
Technically, the question is open. According to IGN, the Switch 2 already handles games like Cyberpunk 2077 and the current remaster of The Witcher 3. At the same time, GTA 6 is also coming to the weaker Xbox Series S. So, there is a lower bar, but whether Rockstar's open world could be realized in a handheld-compatible version remains pure speculation.
Officially, GTA 6 has only been announced for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S so far, with a release on November 19. Rockstar has said nothing about other platforms. Most recently, Xbox also denied reports of exclusive access to the game; read more in our report on Xbox's denial of cloud streaming and PC access.
What Does This Mean for Switch 2 Players?
Specifically: nothing you should rely on. Anyone who wants to play GTA 6 at launch will need a PS5 or Xbox Series X|S. Pritchard's answer is a polite deflection, not a signal for a port.
From our perspective, a Switch 2 version after release is a conceivable, but unconfirmed option. Rockstar has already brought its classics like Red Dead Redemption and L.A. Noire to Nintendo hardware. It would not be unusual for Take-Two if the company were to decide this for its biggest title only after the launch of the main versions. However, there is no evidence of this.
The timing will be interesting: Just two weeks before GTA 6, the Zelda remake of Ocarina of Time will be released on November 5. Nintendo is clearly banking on its own fanbase, rather than sidestepping the Rockstar release.
