Sony has unveiled the Collector's Box for God of War Laufey – and it's already sparking discussion: The box costs £129.99 ($149.99 or €149.99) and doesn't include the game at all. If you want to play Laufey, you'll have to buy it separately. This was revealed in an update on the PlayStation Blog.

What's Inside the God of War Laufey Collector's Box?
The contents are purely physical and tailored for collectors:
- Faye Statue: The approximately eight-inch figure depicts Faye, Phranque, and Rue battling Begtse's soldiers. Phranque glows when the statue is connected to a USB power source.
- Oracle Deck: 51 cards featuring custom illustrations by Megan Lara. Sony describes the deck as a representation of the journey through the “Everywhen.”
- Mini Artbook: Concept art of characters, creatures, and environments, selected by the Santa Monica Studio art team.
When and Where to Buy the Box?
The box will be released on February 16, 2027 – the same day God of War Laufey launches for PlayStation 5. Sony will sell it in “highly limited quantities” exclusively directly through PlayStation, where available. Pre-orders are already open while supplies last. So, if you want to get your hands on one, don't wait too long.
Is a Collector's Box Without the Game Normal?
This concept isn't new. Rockstar is also offering a merchandise-only box for GTA 6 for £349.99, which will be released on November 19. Bungie has also previously sold Destiny 2 as a Collector’s Edition without an expansion code. The trend clearly points towards collector's boxes that only provide accessories.
From our perspective, this is even practical for fans with a digital library: Those who buy the game as a download anyway won't pay double for a disc that would just gather dust on a shelf. It will be disappointing for anyone who expected a classic Collector’s Edition with everything included – because together with the game, you'll quickly end up spending well over €200. Whether the package is worth the price to you ultimately depends on how much you like the statue and deck.
For the developers, this attention comes during an already lively period: Just last month, The Last of Us director Bruce Straley apologized to Santa Monica Studio's Laufey team after stating he was “not thrilled” with the gameplay. He later explained that his statement was “taken out of context and used for clicks.”
