Sony and developer Sucker Punch Productions have surprisingly announced an expanded re-release of Ghost of Yotei: The Ghost of Yotei: Complete Edition will launch on October 1, 2026, for PS5, bringing fresh story content and an entirely new game mode.
What's Included in the Complete Edition
The new edition is more than just a bundled re-release. According to official details from Sucker Punch, Atsu's story is getting substantial new content:
- A new narrative expansion that adds additional chapters and side stories to Atsu's journey
- A new roguelike combat-survival mode with its own progression and runs distinct from the main campaign
- Revised and additional enemy encounters designed to challenge even existing players
- Technical improvements and quality-of-life features compared to the initial release
Sony has not yet definitively confirmed whether the Complete Edition will be sold as a standalone product or if owners of the base game will receive it as a paid upgrade. Sucker Punch plans to provide more precise pricing details in the coming weeks.
Why This Reminds Us of Ghost of Tsushima
For those familiar with the series, the pattern will seem familiar: The first installment, Ghost of Tsushima, also received an expanded version with the Director’s Cut, including a new island, additional story content, and technical improvements for the PS5. The Ghost of Yotei: Complete Edition appears to follow this successful formula, but it carves a new gameplay path with the roguelike survival mode – a genre experiment not previously seen in the main campaign. For us, this indicates that Sucker Punch aims to carefully expand the brand, rather than simply pushing out another re-release upgrade.

For those who have already completed Ghost of Yotei, the new mode should be particularly interesting – it promises increased replayability without needing to revisit the entire main story. Anyone who hasn't jumped in yet might now wait until October anyway to get the full version right away.
What do you think of the Complete Edition – is the upgrade worth it for you, or will you wait for a sale? Let us know in the comments!
