For the 40th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda next year, a special hardware edition is reportedly set to be released. Leaked photos circulating since today reportedly show a black, turquoise, and gold special variant of the Nintendo Switch 2 featuring a Triforce motif on the dock and Joy-Con 2, as well as a matching Pro Controller.
What the Leaked Images Allegedly Show
According to the circulating images, the Pro Controller is said to feature gold accents and depict a pixel sprite of Link in the style of the very first NES Zelda from 1986 – an allusion to the series' origin. The console itself is said to prominently display the Triforce symbol on the dock, while the Joy-Con 2 are reportedly in a dark turquoise with gold details. None of this has been confirmed yet, and Nintendo has not commented on the images.
How Credible the Source Is
The images reportedly originated from Brazilian Nintendo insider “Necro” Felipe Lima, operator of the Universo Nintendo portal, who has repeatedly been accurate with Nintendo hardware leaks in the past. Several international news outlets have picked up the images, without being able to independently verify them themselves. While this suggests a certain credibility for the source, it does not replace official confirmation. From our perspective, the timing makes perfect sense: an anniversary reveal would be well-suited for a Nintendo Direct in the fall, when Nintendo traditionally bundles major announcements.
Should the rumor prove true, it wouldn't be the first time Nintendo celebrates an anniversary with limited edition hardware – special editions were released for both the 35th Mario anniversary and the 35th Zelda anniversary. However, until an official announcement, everything remains speculation.
