The Black Ops 7 competition at the Esports World Cup 2026 in Paris is heating up. Following Thursday's Upper Bracket matches, four of the eight playoff teams are already decided – today, Friday, the Lower Bracket will determine who joins them.
These Four Teams Have Already Secured Playoff Spots
FaZe Clan defeated Movistar KOI 3-1, while G2 Esports secured a clear 3-0 victory against Gentle Mates. 100 Thieves and Team Falcons also advanced to the playoffs – 100 Thieves won a tight 3-2 thriller against defending champions OpTic Gaming, who thus missed the direct path to the playoffs and now have to fight their way back through the Lower Bracket.
Who Qualifies Today for the Remaining Playoff Spots
The Lower Bracket action intensifies today: Starting at 3 PM CEST, Movistar KOI and Cloud9 will face off, followed by several decider matches later in the day, including OpTic Gaming vs. Project Notorious in the late afternoon, beginning at 6:45 PM CEST. For the teams defeated in the Upper Bracket, it's a “do or die” situation – whoever loses today is out of this year's event. The four remaining playoff tickets will be awarded throughout the afternoon and evening, with the playoffs themselves kicking off on August 8th and 9th.
Why This Tournament Means So Much to the Scene
As we reported at the start of the group stage, the Black Ops 7 competition boasts a hefty 1.8 million dollar prize pool – putting immense pressure on all 16 participating teams. The fact that a defending champion like OpTic Gaming missed the direct path shows just how close the competition is this year. For the community, the tournament also serves as an important performance check before the ongoing Black Ops 7 season.
