A new chapter for one of Counter-Strike's most renowned names: Oleksandr „s1mple“ Kostyliev, for years the face of Natus Vincere, has made his debut for his new organization BC.Game Esports. At the Tier-2/3 tournament „Exort The Proving Grounds Season 3“, his new team faced CYBERSHOKE – and ultimately emerged victorious with a 2:1 score.
From NAVI World Star to a New Start at BC.Game
The move marks one of the biggest turning points in s1mple's career. For nearly a decade, he was the face of Natus Vincere, was crowned MVP of the Major Championship in Stockholm in 2021, and is still considered by many fans to be one of the most talented CS players ever. With BC.Game Esports, he is now embarking on a fresh start with a significantly smaller organization that still needs to make a name for itself in the highly competitive CS2 market – a step not everyone in the scene would have expected from a player of his caliber.
The Debut in Detail
On Overpass, CYBERSHOKE initially took the lead with a 16:13 win. However, BC.Game Esports fought back: they narrowly won Mirage 19:17 before decisively closing out the series on Ancient with a 13:8 victory. In the opening duels, s1mple, of all players, was the most prominent performer on his team, winning 13 out of 16 direct initial engagements – a clear sign that his aim-skill is still very much present.
Why Fans Remain Skeptical
However, a closer look at the statistics also reveals why many fans reacted with muted enthusiasm after the match: With a rating of 1.01, a K/D of 1.03, and an ADR of 61.9, s1mple delivered the weakest individual performance across the entire BC.Game roster – highly unusual for a player who was considered the best CS player in the world for years. Technical issues compounded the problem: according to reports, the first map was plagued by multiple freezes and brief connection drops. From our perspective, a single debut match is, of course, not a reliable benchmark, especially after an organizational change, as a cohesive team synergy takes time to develop. Nevertheless, the pressure on s1mple is likely to remain high in the coming weeks, as every one of his appearances in the new jersey will be scrutinized particularly closely.
