Nintendo fans have long awaited a mainline Call of Duty on their console – and now the wait is finally over. A portion of the open beta for Modern Warfare 4 is now playable on the Nintendo Switch 2, as reported by Nintendo Life, among others.
What's Playable in the Open MW4 Beta on Switch 2 Right Now?
To kick off the beta, the campaign mission “Entrenched” has been unlocked. This is unusual: historically, Call of Duty betas have almost exclusively offered early access to multiplayer modes; a playable story mission in this format has never been available before. Players eager to try out the Switch 2 version can therefore get a first impression of the campaign's graphics and controls before the major multiplayer rush begins.
When Does the Multiplayer Portion of the Beta Start?
The multiplayer mode will follow one day later and will be playable starting Friday, August 28. According to official statements, the open beta will run until September 1 and will also offer crossplay with other platforms. The full game will then be released on October 23, 2026 – so the beta provides a good taste without buyers having to wait long for a first hands-on experience.
How Does Modern Warfare 4 Perform Technically on Switch 2?
The Switch 2 version is not being developed by Infinity Ward alone, but in collaboration with Digital Legends studio, which specializes in porting. Initial impressions from the community already describe the implementation as a surprisingly decent port: while there are noticeable compromises in resolution and draw distance compared to PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, the frame rate is said to have remained stable in early tests. For us, this is a remarkable fact, as a true Modern Warfare game had simply been missing on a Nintendo console – for over ten years, the brand was practically unrepresented on Nintendo hardware. The current general demand for Modern Warfare 4 is also evident beyond consoles: on Steam, the game is currently in a tight player count race with the indie shooter Wardogs, which we have already reported on.
