Black Ops 7 and Warzone: PC Players Grapple with Crashes After Update

If you're currently playing Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 or Warzone on PC, you might already be familiar with the problem: Since the August 1, 2026 update, known as the Season 5 Reloaded Hotfix, reports of hard crashes and massive performance drops have been accumulating.

Specific Issues Being Reported

Affected players are reporting two distinct symptoms:

  • Complete PC restarts in the middle of a match, not just game crashes
  • Massive FPS drops: Players who normally maintain a stable 160 to 190 FPS are sometimes dropping below 100 FPS
  • According to community reports, these issues primarily occur in Multiplayer and Warzone, less so in the Campaign

Activision's official Known Issues page now lists the PC crashes as a recognized problem, and based on the patterns of previous patches, a final fix is usually expected within a few days after such a hotfix.

What You Can Do Until a Fix is Released

Until Activision officially rolls out a patch, the following steps are primarily recommended by consistent community and press reports, to be tried in this order:

  • Scan and repair game files (Scan & Repair in your respective launcher)
  • Clear the graphics card's shader cache
  • Reset or completely reinstall graphics drivers
  • Limit framerate and reduce some particularly demanding graphics options
  • For complete PC restarts: Disable GPU overclocking or undervolting and check temperatures/power supply

Meanwhile, Activision is already preparing for its next big announcement: The CODNext event is scheduled for August 21, where more about Call of Duty as a whole is expected, while Modern Warfare 4 is set for October 23, 2026. Let's hope that the current PC issues are long resolved by then – similar stability problems have occurred with other CoD updates recently, but they were usually fixed promptly.
