Black Ops 6 Ditches Call of Duty HQ – Now a Standalone Download

Heads up, Zombies and Multiplayer fans: As of July 7, 2026, 12 PM ET, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is no longer integrated into the Call of Duty HQ launcher app. Activision has officially detached the game from the shared HQ ecosystem and is now releasing it as a standalone download.

What does this mean for you specifically? If you already have Black Ops 6 installed, there's no way around it: the game and its associated legacy content must be completely re-downloaded once. It sounds annoying, but it's a one-time process. After that, Black Ops 6 will run entirely independent of HQ, including Campaign, Multiplayer, and Zombies.

This move isn't coming out of nowhere. The community has been complaining for years about the bloated HQ app, which seemingly eats up more storage space with every CoD release, even if you only want to play a single title. Back in 2025, Activision set a precedent by removing MW2 and MW3 from HQ, and now Black Ops 6 follows as the next major step in this cleanup effort.

Very important: This is not a shutdown, no server outage, no “Rest in Peace” for Black Ops 6. The game remains fully playable, just packaged more leanly. All information regarding downloads and the current status can be found on the official Call of Duty website.

Our tip: Start the download now, before the next squad invite rolls in. Nothing's more annoying than a loading bar while your crew is already waiting in lobby voice chat.
